Ben Kaplan | Founder + CEO
Ben Kaplan has conducted PR and publicity campaigns for the world's largest consumer, financial, and education brands. He has obtained media coverage for his clients on more than 5,000 media outlets and has personally appeared on over 2,000 TV and radio programs, including interviews on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, Nightline, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Fox News, NPR, and the BBC.
Ben has written columns for leading global publications such as The New York Times, TIME, and U.S. News & World Report. His popular "Scholars & Dollars" education column was launched in The Oregonian (Portland's daily newspaper) in 2006.
Ben also served as the official pitch trainer for hundreds of start-up companies in the Start-Up Chile global accelerator. Known as "America's Scholarship Coach," his book, 'How to Go to College Almost for Free' (HarperCollins Publishers) is the best-selling scholarship book in the world with one million readers worldwide.
Graduating from Harvard in 1999 magna cum laude with a degree in economics, Kaplan conducted original academic research examining the timing of stock market IPOs. He is a recipient of the Morris Kronfeld Prize in Economics.
Gary Kaplan | Biz Dev Director
Gary Kaplan created the world's first home computer magazines, 99'er Magazine and Home Computer Magazine, setting up foreign sales outlets in over 50 countries.
Bootstrapping the magazine, Gary grew the global business to more than 500,000 readers, over $10 million in revenue, and 150 employees—generating and capitalizing on millions of dollars in PR during this journey.
He has supplied business intelligence/advice and concluded strategic deals with leading tech companies such as Texas Instruments, Apple, Microsoft, and IBM. Additionally, Gary was invited by Steve Jobs to help develop software for the NeXT computer platform (which eventually became the foundation for Apple's modern-day desktop and mobile operating systems).
Ann Murray | Media Director
Ann Murray developed her expertise in online publicity, social media marketing, and influencer outreach at leading agencies such as M80 Marketing (U.S.) and ThinkJam PR (UK/US).
She has coordinated campaigns for major film, consumer and tech brands such as 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Warner Brothers, CNN, Unilever, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mass Mutual, and The J.M. Smucker Company.
Ann holds a B.A from UCLA and a M.A. in Strategic Public Relations from the University of Southern California, where she completed a masters thesis on the scalable business impact of social networking and blogger outreach, and worked with Harvard digital media researcher Dana Boyd. Additionally, she has served as a blogger for Comcast, Condé Nast, Huffington Post, and Gawker.
Cody Pittman | Client Director
Cody Pittman has a passion for connecting the world. During his time at PR Hacker, he has coordinated PR campaigns with entrepreneurs and start-ups on 5 continents. He has experience executing PR campaigns in the fashion, information security, mobile apps, green technology, lifestyle, and entertainment industries.
Previously, Cody worked overseas in both Chongqing, China, and Santiago, Chile. His work included coordinating international marketing projects, teaching language and culture, and managing a team of 20 global interns. Cody holds a degree in Chinese and Marketing from Miami University.
